Custom Pool Design & Construction

Swimming pools designed like architecture

Every WETYR pool begins as a drawing tuned to your property, your light, and the way you want to live outdoors. Then the same craftsman-led team builds it, with no quality lost between the design table and the dig. This is custom pool design done properly: one accountable studio, from the first sketch to the first swim.

The Approach

Designed for your site, not pulled from a catalog

A swimming pool is the single largest piece of architecture most homeowners ever add to their property, and it should be treated that way. A pool that was copied from a brochure almost always fights its surroundings: it sits in the wrong corner of the yard, it catches shade when you want sun, it turns its best edge toward the fence instead of the view. A pool that was genuinely designed does the opposite. It feels inevitable, as though the house and the land were always waiting for it.

That is the standard WETYR Pools designs to. Before a single line is drawn we walk your property and study the things that quietly decide whether a pool succeeds: the path of the sun across the day, the sight lines from your kitchen and primary bedroom, the natural grade and drainage, the water table, the prevailing breeze, and the way your home opens to the outdoors. We learn how you actually intend to use the water, whether that is morning laps, afternoons with children on a sun shelf, or evenings entertaining around a glowing spa.

Only then do we design. You see the result as a full three-dimensional model before any permit is pulled, so the shape, depth, finishes, decking, lighting, and features are all resolved on screen rather than discovered in concrete. Decisions made on paper are inexpensive and reversible. Decisions discovered mid-build are neither. Designing thoroughly up front is what makes a WETYR build calm, predictable, and free of the surprise change orders that plague the industry.

Pool Types

The swimming pools we design and build

Every WETYR pool is custom, but most start from one of these forms. We shape the right one to your property, your budget, and the life you want around the water.

Gunite and shotcrete pools

Gunite is the foundation of nearly every serious custom pool, and for good reason. A gunite shell is a structural shell of pneumatically applied concrete over an engineered steel cage, which means it can take any shape, any depth, and any feature you can imagine. Unlike a fiberglass shell or a vinyl liner, gunite has no factory mold and no size limit. It is the most durable, most flexible, and most valuable way to build, and it is what allows a pool to be genuinely architectural rather than off the shelf.

Geometric and modern pools

Clean rectangles, crisp L-shapes, and sharp-cornered geometry suit contemporary homes and disciplined landscapes. A geometric pool reads as deliberate and architectural. It pairs beautifully with linear water features, sheer-descent walls, raised spas, and large-format stone or porcelain decking, and it makes the most of a lap-friendly straight run.

Freeform and lagoon pools

Soft, organic shapes belong in lush, tropical, and naturalistic settings. A freeform or lagoon pool is designed with curves that echo the planting and the terrain, often with a beach entry, boulder accents, and a waterfall. It feels less like a built object and more like a spring that was always there.

Infinity and vanishing-edge pools

A negative or vanishing edge removes the visual boundary between the pool and what lies beyond it: a lake, the ocean, a golf fairway, or a planted garden. Water spills over a precisely leveled wall into a hidden catch basin and is pumped back continuously. It is the most dramatic move in pool design and the most demanding to engineer, which is exactly why it should be left to a builder who designs and constructs under one roof.

Lap and fitness pools

For swimmers, a clear straight run of consistent depth matters more than footprint. We design true lap pools and hybrid designs that combine a lap lane with a lounging area, and we can add a swim jet so a compact pool delivers an endless current to swim against.

Plunge pools and spools

Smaller properties and courtyards are not a barrier to a beautiful pool. A plunge pool is a compact pool built for cooling off and relaxing, and a spool, a spa and pool combined, delivers both a place to swim and a heated spa in a single tight footprint. Both can carry the same premium finishes and features as a full-size design.

Raised, perimeter-overflow, and knife-edge pools

When the design calls for water that sits like a mirror flush with the deck, a perimeter-overflow or knife-edge detail carries the surface to the very edge on all sides. Raised walls, raised spas, and raised bond beams add architecture, seating, and the sound of moving water. These are the details that turn a pool into a centerpiece.

Signature Features

The details that make a pool unforgettable

A pool becomes memorable in its details. The features below are not add-ons bolted on at the end; they are designed into the structure from the start so the plumbing, the steel, and the equipment are all sized to support them. Mix and match them into one cohesive design rather than a collection of parts.

Sun shelves and tanning ledges create a shallow zone for loungers, children, and bubblers. Spillover spas pour warm water into the pool and double the use of the backyard into the cooler months. Sheer descents, scuppers, deck jets, and bubblers add the sound and motion of moving water. Fire bowls and fire pits bring warmth and glow to the evening. Submerged and color-changing LED lighting turns the pool into a nighttime destination, and smart automation lets you run all of it from your phone.

Infinity & Vanishing Edges

Negative-edge designs that blend your pool into the horizon, the water beyond, or a lush garden.

Spas & Sun Shelves

Spillover spas, tanning ledges, and bubblers that give every member of the family a place in the water.

Fire & Water Features

Sheer descents, scuppers, deck jets, and fire bowls that turn the pool into the center of evening entertaining.

Smart Automation

Control temperature, lighting, features, and chemistry from your phone with commercial-grade equipment.

Premium Finishes

Pebble and quartz interiors, glass tile waterlines, natural stone coping, and custom decking.

Pool & Pond Combinations

Pair a swimming pool with a natural pond or waterfall for a backyard that feels like a private resort.

How We Work

Our design-build process, step by step

One team carries your project from the first conversation to the first swim. Here is what each stage involves.

Consult

We visit your property, study sun, grade, drainage, and sight lines, learn how you want to use the water, and review budget and timeline honestly so there are no false expectations.

Design

You receive a three-dimensional rendering, finish and material selections, and a fixed, itemized proposal. Nothing is built until the design is exactly right and approved.

Build

Permitting, excavation, steel and plumbing, the gunite shell, tile and coping, decking, the interior finish, and equipment, all managed by our crews on a tracked schedule.

Maintain

We complete the startup and water balancing, walk you through your new pool, and offer ongoing service plans so the investment is protected for the long term.

Beneath those four stages is a disciplined sequence of work. Permitting and engineering come first: we prepare the plans, structural calculations, and submittals your local municipality requires, and we manage the inspections through to completion. Excavation shapes the hole to the engineered design. The steel cage is tied and the plumbing and electrical conduit are roughed in, then inspected. The gunite or shotcrete shell is pneumatically applied and cured, creating the permanent structure of the pool.

From there the project moves into finishes. Waterline tile and coping are set. The decking is formed and installed. The equipment pad is built and the pump, filter, heater, automation, and any salt or sanitation system are mounted and wired. Finally the interior finish, the pebble or quartz surface that you see and feel, is applied, and the pool is filled and brought into balance. Throughout, you have a single point of contact and a schedule you can actually follow.

Materials & Finishes

Surfaces chosen to last, not just to sell

The materials of a pool decide how it ages. A cheap finish looks acceptable on handover day and rough within a few seasons; a quality finish looks better with time. We specify materials for durability first and beauty second, because in practice the two go together.

For the interior, pebble and quartz aggregate finishes far outlast standard plaster, resist staining and etching, and give the water its color and depth. At the waterline, glass and porcelain tile add a jewel-like band that is easy to clean and impervious to the elements. Natural stone, travertine, and large-format porcelain coping caps the edge with a surface that stays comfortable underfoot.

The deck is where you actually live around the pool, so it deserves the same care as the pool itself. Pavers, travertine, and modern decking are selected for slip resistance, heat comfort, and proper drainage, and they are designed as part of the whole project rather than added as an afterthought. The result is a pool environment that is cohesive from the water to the back door.

Built To Last

Engineered for real-world conditions

A pool is exposed to everything: relentless sun, heavy rain, heat, freeze in some regions, salt air near the coast, and storm season in others. A pool that was engineered for those conditions performs quietly for decades. One that was not begins to show it within a few years through cracking, staining, equipment failure, and rising running costs.

WETYR Pools engineers every project for its specific environment. Structural design accounts for soil and the water table so the shell stays sound. Equipment is sized correctly and protected, never undersized to win a bid. Near the coast we specify corrosion-resistant hardware and finishes that stand up to salt air. Where storms are a fact of life, we design decking and drainage to shed water away from the home, and we build with the understanding that a pool must be both beautiful and resilient.

Efficiency is engineered in from the start. Variable-speed pumps, properly sized plumbing, modern heaters, LED lighting, and smart automation are not luxuries; they are the difference between a pool that is a pleasure to own and one that is a monthly burden. The right choices at design time lower the cost of running the pool for its entire life.

Planning & Investment

What a custom pool costs, and what drives it

Custom pools vary widely in price because they vary widely in what they are. A pool is priced like a custom home: it depends entirely on the decisions inside it. Rather than quote a meaningless average, we explain what actually moves the number so you can steer your budget toward what matters most to your family.

The largest factors are size and depth, which drive excavation, structure, finish, and equipment; shape, since free-form and vanishing-edge designs are more involved than simple geometry; finishes, from standard surfaces up to pebble, quartz, glass tile, and natural stone; features such as spas, sun shelves, water and fire features, slides, and grottos; the size and material of the decking; and site conditions, including access for equipment, grade, soil, and the water table.

Whatever the scope, WETYR Pools delivers a fixed, itemized proposal before any work begins. You see exactly where every dollar goes, and the price you approve is the price you pay. We would rather lose a bid to a lowball competitor than win one by hiding costs that surface later as change orders. A pool is a long-term investment in your property and your life at home, and it should be planned with that honesty from day one.

The WETYR Difference

One studio accountable for every drop

Most pool projects pass through a chain of separate companies: a designer, a sales office, a construction crew, and a service company, each handing off to the next. Quality leaks at every handoff, and when something goes wrong, everyone points at someone else. WETYR Pools is built the opposite way. Design, engineering, construction, and long-term care all live under one roof, so the team that draws your pool is the team that builds it and stands behind it.

That single line of accountability is why our builds run calm and on schedule, why the finished pool matches the rendering, and why the same people are still there years later to maintain it. You get one point of contact, one standard, and one company whose reputation is on the line from the first sketch to long after the first swim.

Good To Know

Custom pool design questions

Clear answers to the questions homeowners ask most before starting a pool project.

How much does a custom pool cost?+

Custom pools vary widely with size, depth, shape, finishes, features, decking, and site conditions. There is no meaningful average, because a pool is priced like a custom home. After an on-site consultation we deliver a fixed, itemized proposal so you see exactly where every dollar goes, with no surprise change orders.

How long does pool construction take?+

Most custom pools run roughly 8 to 14 weeks once permits are issued, depending on design complexity, features, and weather. Vanishing edges, extensive stonework, and elaborate water features add time. You receive a tracked schedule before we break ground so you always know what stage comes next.

Do you handle permits and inspections?+

Yes. WETYR Pools prepares the engineered plans and manages permitting and every inspection with your local municipality as part of every design-build project. Permitting and engineering are handled before excavation begins.

Can you add a pool to an existing landscape?+

Absolutely. We design around mature trees, existing patios, screen enclosures, slopes, and tight equipment access, and we restore the surrounding yard as part of the project so the finished result looks intentional rather than inserted.

What is the difference between gunite, fiberglass, and vinyl pools?

Gunite is structural concrete shot over a steel cage, which allows any shape, depth, and feature with no size limit, and it is the most durable and valuable way to build. Fiberglass pools are pre-molded shells limited to factory shapes and sizes. Vinyl-liner pools use a replaceable liner over a frame. WETYR Pools builds custom gunite pools because they are the only way to deliver genuinely architectural design.

Will you provide a 3D design before I commit?+

Yes. Every project includes a three-dimensional rendering and material selections so you can see and adjust the pool before a permit is pulled. Resolving the design on screen is what keeps the build predictable and free of costly mid-project changes.

Can a pool include a spa and water features in one design?+

Yes, and designing them together is the right way to do it. A spillover spa, sun shelf, sheer descents, fire bowls, lighting, and automation are engineered into the structure from the start so the plumbing and equipment are sized to support them. Adding features later is always more expensive and more limited.

How energy efficient is a new WETYR pool?+

Very, because efficiency is designed in. Variable-speed pumps, correctly sized plumbing, modern heating, LED lighting, and smart automation dramatically lower running costs compared with older or undersized equipment. We can also integrate solar pool heating to extend the swim season at almost no operating cost.

Do you build pools nationwide?+

WETYR Pools is growing from its established home market toward nationwide coverage. If you are planning a custom pool, contact us with your location and project and we will tell you how we can help.

What happens after the pool is finished?+

We complete the startup, balance the water, and walk you through operating your new pool. Because we also maintain what we build, the same team can keep your pool pristine with a year-round service plan, so nothing falls through the cracks.
